Office365 for New Members

Welcome to Indiana Wing

Welcome to Indiana Wing of the Civil Air Patrol. Whether you are new to CAP or just transferred into Indiana, its a pleasure to have you with us and we look forward to working with you in the future. Indiana Wing has transitioned to Office 365. This platform provides each member of the wing an Office account which includes, among other things, their wing email account. Indiana Wing members use their wing email for all wing and other CAP related business. This account will give you access to important information as a member of the wing, as well as serve as your credential to access the information systems used in Indiana, including the wing intranet and the wing's corporate computers. This page provides the basic information necessary for you to establish your account. Again, welcome to Indiana Wing!

Account Creation

Once your membership has been processed by National Headquarters and you have been assigned a CAP Identification Number (CAPID) the process for creating your Office account will begin. The Indiana Wing Information Technology Team will process your membership and manage your account creation automatically. You will be notified when your account is available at the email address on file in eServices (and directed to this page!) and will then be able to utilize the initial account credentials described below.

Initial Account Credentials

All member accounts are generated using the following initial account credential format:

Usernames are established in the following format: firstname.lastname@inwg.cap.gov
Initial passwords are setup in the following format: LastnameCAPID (case sensitive)
Note: You will be required to change your password upon your first successful login.
Login Page: https://www.office.com

What to Expect After First Login

After you login for the first time, you will be prompted to add information for account verification. This is most easily done using a cell phone number or a personal email address. You will be required to receive a confirmation code to whatever method is selected. The information you enter here is the information that you will use if you ever become locked out of your account. This process ensures you have a self service password reset capability and must be completed.

After Your First Login

Once you have have accessed your wing email account and have confirmed you are able to send and receive information, your next step will be to update your email in the National Headquarters system - eServices (https://www.capnhq.gov).

  1. Login to eServices
  2. Click your name in the top right of eServices
  3. Select "Contacts" from the menu that appears
  4. At the bottom complete the "Add new contact" form and add your Indiana Wing email address, selecting "Primary" for the priority
  5. Add your personal email address as your secondary email address so a backup email account remains listed if needed

Core Applications

Microsoft Teams

Microsoft Teams is a communication platform that enables our members to communicate via chats, wall posts (common in many social media platforms), and collaborate through a common file sharing space. The meeting and conferencing capabilities that come along with Teams are a huge help for units at all levels in the wing to meet at any time and any place and conduct CAP business. You will be a member of your unit's team by default.

Microsoft Outlook

Outlook is the application that connects you with your wing email account. Outlook may be used in its traditional desktop version on any computer or via the Outlook on the Web option accessible after logging into www.office.com. Additionally, you may add Outlook for mobile devices and access your wing email that way. Third party mail applications may be used to access your mail in most cases. For software that has not been evaluated by the Wing Information Technology Team there may be a 48-72 hour delay in having some third party applications approved for use (or denied) until it can be evaluated and determined to meet the security requirements of the organization.

Microsoft SharePoint

SharePoint as an application combines information from many sources. In INWG, SharePoint is the platform used to build the wing intranet (or member's site) on. When you login to the "Wing Intranet" (https://inwg.sharepoint.com) you are accessing a SharePoint site. Indiana Wing doesn't actively develop sites and content for specific use in the SharePoint app but member sites and the wing intranet function as a complete website without every directly accessing SharePoint as an application specifically. As you explore the intranet and the SharePoint app itself you will begin to see the connections and overall organization of the Office 365 environment.
